Scaffold base plates are the bases, or feet, of scaffolding verticals, providing a flat, large area and carrying the load of the verticals to ensure even weight distribution across the scaffold during construction. Base plates give scaffolding a strong foundation, improve stability, and support more weight.

A scaffold base plate, also called a scaffold base, scaffold footplate, scaffold pole base plate, or scaffold tube plate, is a steel scaffolding part or accessory with a square foot and a central spigot made of a hollow tube or a solid bar spigot.

Every scaffold needs a steel base plate. Steel base plates act as the feet of scaffold legs (standards/verticals). They enlarge the scaffold’s contact area with the floor/ground, helping the scaffold stand more stably without shifting or displacing.

Scaffold base plates come in customised sizes and specifications for different scaffolding systems, meeting the scaffolding system’s safe load capacity and matching its vertical sizes. The minimum thickness of a scaffold base plate is 3 mm, and the regular base plate thickness is 5mm.

How to Install Scaffolding Base Plates

1. Position sole boards (timber or plastic treader pad) on the ground/floor
2. Place scaffold steel base plate on the sole boards
3. Slide the scaffolding post onto the base plate
4.  Insert the base plate spigot/stem inside the scaffolding posts
5. Fix the base plate to the scaffolding standards with bolts and nuts
6. Secure the base plate to the sole boards or ground by holes

Scaffold Sole Plate and Base Plate

A scaffold base plate is an essential scaffolding component that acts as the feet of scaffolding standards and is made of steel plates.
