Layher Steel Decks
320mm steel decks are one of the hook-on metal work platforms for the Layher allround system. More than the 320mm width, there are also 190mm width hook-on steel decks for the Allround ringlock system.
Compared to the hook-on steel decks, there are also plain end steel planks (with no hooks on). The plain end steel planks are 300mm and 200mm in width. They fill the gaps on the standardised work platforms, thus called steel gap decks.
In addition to the steel scaffolding decks, there are aluminium platforms and alu-ply platforms with hatches (trapdoors) 24″ (610mm) wide and lengths 0.73 to 3.07m.
Types of 320mm Layher Steel Plank Decks
There are two types of 320mm wide Layher steel scaffold planks—O-type planks and U-type Planks, designed for ringlock O Ledgers and ringlock U ledgers.
- O Type Layher planks with O plank Hooks match with O.D 48.3mm diameter ringlock O Ledgers (Made of 48.3mm standard scaffold tubes)
- U Type Layher Planks with U Plank Hooks Hooks, which are compatible with ringlock U Legders (Made of Ribbed steel U profiles)
How to Choose U Type and O Type Layher Planks and Decks
If you are using ringlock O ledger O.D 48.3mm diameter, you need to choose O-type planks. (Most ringlock scaffolding brands have O-legers, but fewer have U-ledgers).
Why Use Layher U-Type Decks?
Layher U-type decks and platforms need to work with Ringlock U ledgers, which support both platforms separately from two sides. This design avoids plank hooks conflicts in erection.
There are more than 320mm steel U-type planks, and other planks are designed with U-plank hooks, too. These include aluminium trapdoor platforms, aluminium-ply hatch platforms, 190mm steel decks, etc.
Note: Using Layher U ledger transoms and U hook planks, you need to close the opening of the U profile with lift-off preventers to prevent lifting off during construction.
320mm Layher Steel Deck Sizes
The 320mm scaffold plank deck sizes are aligned with the axis sizes (ringlock standard centre to centre size between two ledgers) of ringlock ledgers. The centre-to-centre ledger sizes include 0.73m, 1.07m, 1.4m, 1.57m, 2.07m, 2.57m, and 3.07m. OEM Customized sizes are available as well.

How to Calculate Layher Scaffold Platform Safety Work Load (SWL) According to Ultimate Weight Bearing Test Result
Scaffold platform safety load is the ultimate dividing safety factor. According to different countries’ rules and regulations, the safety factor is 1:2, 1:3, or 1:4.
For example, using 2.57m scaffold planks, the ultimate load is 2600 LBS (about 1182 kg).
- If the safety factor is 1:2, the safety load is 1300 LBS (591 KG)
- If the safety factor is 1:3, the safety load is 866 LBS (394 KG)
- If the safety factor is 1:4, the safety load is 650 LBS (296 KG)
Safety Load Capacity Calculation of LBS/FT
When you get the safety load after dividing the safety factors, you can calculate the safety load per foot figure.
Use the same 2.57m Layher planks as an example; the ultimate load is 2600 LBS. Thus, the safety load (considering a Safety Factor of 4 according to the ANSI and CSA standards) and the 320mm scaffold plank safety load capacity are 2600/4=650 LBS.
The total length is 2.57m ( 8.43′). Thus, the Load LBS/FT is 650/8.43′ = 77 LBS/FT.
320mm Layher Steel Deck Finishing
For anti-corrosion purposes, you can choose hot-dip galvanised 320mm layher planks and pre-galvanised 320mm planks.
Hot dip galvanized, also called HDG, is the most durable scaffold surface treatment. HDG scaffold steel planks can last more than 10 years.
Pre-galvanised 320mm scaffolding steel planks are made of premier galvanised steel plates. There is less zinc thickness and a shorter life span than HDG scaffold planks. But the cost and price are much cheaper.

320mm Work Platform Opening Area Solution
The 320mm steel decks enable an opening on the work platform in construction. Opening an area/window is vital for the ringlock scaffolding, especially for industrial construction. Forming the opening area, you must use the parts of deck-to-deck transoms and deck-to-ledger transoms. Then the steel planks can be safely separated from each side of the opening area.
